Shopify or a custom store?

Shopify suits you if you have up to a few hundred products, want to launch fast and are fine with a monthly plan. What Shopify development includes

1. Store setup: we create the store, add products and collections, and set up shipping zones, taxes and store policies.

2. Theme choice and customisation: we pick a theme that suits your products and adjust colours, fonts, layouts and sections to match your brand.

Shopify costs to plan for

Apart from our development fee, Shopify has its own costs: a monthly or yearly Shopify plan, transaction or payment gateway fees, and paid apps or themes if you choose them. These are billed by Shopify and app developers directly to you. We list them before starting so you can compare Shopify with a custom store fairly.

When Shopify is not the best choice

Shopify is excellent for straightforward retail stores, but it can get expensive or limiting if you need wholesale price lists, complex product configurators, multi-vendor marketplaces or deep integration with your own systems. In those cases a custom Next.js store, like the ones we build for most clients, can work out cheaper over two or three years.
